Finally!

The last few days has had me cheering Congress, which is a rarity in my life.  They finally got it together and passed some meaningful Security legislation, which will be signed into law by President Bush.  They finally decided to listen to the American people.  Let me shout, Yeah!, because it probably won't happen again until 2008.

To be fair, the House has been working on and passing border security legislation since last year but the Senate, whose members would rather die than not debate an issue to death have been huffing and puffing about border security for what seems to be forever and a day.  Is 700 miles of fencing the answer to our security?  No, but it's a worthwhile beginning and combined with other legislation passed this week gives me some hope that someone is listening.

Of course, both of my Senators, Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez voted against it but I live in the People's Republic of New Jersey.  I am convinced that my state could be, if voted upon, the most Left leaning in the nation.  Hence, my bio in which I call myself a lonely Conservative.  Even the GOP here is not as Right as I'd like.

I was surprised that Senator Lieberman voted against the fencing but I figure if he wants to win over any Lamont leaning voters he has to go Left just a little.  It's a shame when anyone thinks they have sell out but go ahead Joe because we need you in DC.  I understand your dilemma.

For the most part it's been a good week for Conservatives thanks to our Congress and they deserve to be rewarded by our votes on Election Day.  Then again, what other choice do we have?  Socialist demagogues who want to rule, not run, our country and whose sole goal it is to turn us into a government dependent state that would make Marx and Lenin proud?  I don't think so.

So......join with me by raising your glass or cup filled with the beverage of choice in salute to all of us who demanded action and to those who FINALLY heard our voice.  God Bless America!

Psssst!

It has happened to all of us at one time or another.  Someone, during a conversation, lets loose with a juicy piece of news about another, who is usually not present and unable to defend the accusation.  More often than not, the news is hurtful and destructive.  Our reaction to this tidbit largely depends upon our relationship with the person whose life is being harmed but even if we don't know them we may wonder about the character of the person who is so enthusiatic to spread the evil tidings.

Unless you have been living in a cave or on some remote island for the past week you know about the hoopla surrounding Senator George Allen's use of the "N" word.  Campaign season is upon us and this will only be the first of many slings and arrows by both sides.  My first reaction upon hearing was disappointment because if you were to ask me today who I would vote for in 2008 it would be him.  Later when I stopped and thought about it I said to myself "What a dirty trick!".  The more I heard the more I knew that it was just a horrible smear by those with an agenda.  I have no doubt that somehow his opponent's campaign, the DNC or DSCC was involved.

My sincerest disappointment is found in Larry Sabato, a professor at UVA.  I have always enjoyed listening to his pre election analysis, mostly because I thought he was non partisan.  NO MORE.  Mr. Sabato has shown himself to be blatantly partisan and either stupid, hateful or maybe both.  He has lost his credibility and when I heard on Sean Hannity's radio show that he had worked for a Democrat politician it cemented my opinion.

After stating that he was absolutely certain that Senator Allen had used the "N" word he bactracked, telling the AP that he had been told by reliable sources in the last few weeks it was true.  C'mon!  He never witnessed the Senator speaking the word, only recently heard the gossip, but had the audacity to pass it along as concrete truth.  What was he thinking?  Remember, what I said about character?  He has none.

Politics is a down and dirty business and campaigns investigate their opponent's background from the day they are born to find dirt - but it better be true.  If you are going to try to destroy someone's reputation, at least be truthful about it.  I would prefer listening to a candidate's stand on the issues but since Dems can't be truthful about what they do stand for I guess they have no choice but to spread rumor even if it means lying.  That's not gossip, just pure fact.

It would be nice to think that things will change but as long as humanity continues to be human I doubt it.

Drip, Drip, Drip

If the kitchen faucet is leaking you call a plumber, or, in my case ask my husband to take a look at it.  Sometimes, it is nothing more than an inexpensive washer which must be replaced but, at other times, especially if the leak has been left unattended the entire faucet must be replaced.  So it is in Washington DC.

If I could, today, speak to anyone in our nation's capital I would choose our Attorney General and ask him what was being done to stem the flow of leaks in the intelligence community.  I would express my sincere concern that the many leaks pouring out to the press are putting each and everyone of us in grave danger.  I would not leave until he assured me that the Justice Department was working diligently to find the traitors.

I am far from alone in my thoughts about this matter and have even noticed that President Bush shares my anger and angst about the traitors among us.  Yes, I know that you should watch name calling but if the shoe fits - and in this case it does - then I believe that you must call them like you see them, and, if your treachery has put my family in danger then I am going to let you know how I feel!

The perpetrators must be found, prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent of the law.  It must be done publicly for all to see.  Their position in government or political affiliation matters not.  Justice must reign because our survival depends on it.

I would also encourage Mr. Gonzales to put under oath every reporter who published leaks, and, if they failed to cooperate jail them, their editor and publisher until every bit of information needed was divulged.  If that meant eventually shutting down the presses then so be it!  We would probably all be better off if the likes of the New York Times was not able to spew their Leftist agenda for awhile.

Enough is enough!  When a political agenda is put above national security then those involved must pay the price for their treasonous behavior.  The mainstream press has, for too long, been allowed to damage our national interest.  This must be stopped.

Mr. Gonzales, I hope you're listening

Nothing has changed

As I sat and watched Chris Wallace's interview with former President Clinton Sunday night I was astounded, not because of the content of his answers but because nothing has changed.  Even after being caught lying under oath while still President, Mr. Clinton continues to point his finger and lie to the American public.  Don't get me wrong.  I am not privy to NSA or DOD info but there has been enough information made public about his failure to get bin Laden to fill one section of a book store.

I vividly remember watching the former President lie to all of us as he pointed his finger and told us that he did not have sex with "that woman".  Maybe, because I am a woman I knew the moment those words left his mouth that he was lying through his teeth.  He could have saved his family and his country many, many months of aggravation and $$$$$$$$ if he had only told the truth in the beginning.  If, initially, he had admitted to the Lewinsky affair it probably would have gone away in short order.  After all, we Americans have short memories.

Nothing has changed and he certainly has not.  That is why I knew when he pointed his finger at Chris Wallace he was once again lying to save his own skin.  I am not sure if he is emotionally immature, a pathological liar or has a more serious condition and, at this point,  I don't really care.  I do care that he still continues to put his own welfare above ours.  A nice apology would have been in order.  For instance, if he had said that he was sorry if he or anyone in his administration had not done enough and stop there; but he did not.  He decided to use the same old playbook and blame the "vast right wing conspiracy".  Since I consider myself a proud member of that same conspiracy I was deeply offended.

As a compassionate Conservative I am sorry that he thinks he must do or say anything to save himself but, having said that, I don't want him near any person, place or thing at any time where he can do any further damage to this nation.  I wish him the best and may he and the Mrs. enjoy life as far away from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as possible.
