No, I have not read Woodward's book and probably won't. No, I did not watch the Sunday talk shows and usually don't, except Fox News Sunday. No, I haven't read the Washington Post and New York Times but l will admit that I did subscribe to the Post by email. It helps me to understand where the dark side is headed.
What I have read about "State of Denial" prompts me to think that it is just another pre election anti Bush, anti Republican hit piece. Let's see. Hmmmm, coming out less than 40 days before the mid terms by a mainstream reporter who we know is a Liberal. If it was the only book in the library I wouldn't take it out free so there's no chance I will spend money for it.
The excerpts I have read seem a bit ludicrous. It just isn't believable to me that "W" would continue in Iraq even if Laura and Barnie were the only ones supporting him. Or, that Laura wanted Rumself canned. I don't know who Woodward's sources are but it's pretty sad when the best you can do are the aforementioned statements. It sounds to me that the author interviewed those who would confirm, rather than deny, his premise that the President is a delusional, stubborn man who only listens to what he wants to hear.
Apparently, there are those within whose loyalty to the President must be questioned.
We've already seen some of that betrayal through the likes of Richard Armitage, who preferred to save his own skin is rather than put others and the country at rest about the Valerie Pflame incident. The various and sundry intelligence leaks continue and, now, Colin Powell is in the midst of a tome about how he warned President Bush about Iraq. I guess that's one way of relieving yourself of any responsibility for your tenure as Secretary of State. I thought Generals were courageous?
Even if there is any truth in State of Denial I probably won't believe it. Bob Woodward has already lost credibiliity with me. It's just a shame we're going to have to listen to all of this jibberish. As for me, I'll get my truth elsewhere.
